Send pro forma invoices

A pro forma invoice is a preliminary document that provides your customer with an overview of the price and order details before goods or services are delivered.

Unlike a regular invoice, it does not act as a request for payment.

Sufio is an invoicing app for Shopify stores that lets you create and manage invoices, pro forma invoices, credit notes, and other documents. Once you've created a pro forma invoice, you can send it to your customer directly from your Sufio account.

Send a single pro forma invoice

To send one pro forma invoice to your customer:

  3. Click More, then click Send.
  4. On the Send pro forma invoices page, confirm you are about to send one pro forma invoice.
  5. Click Send.

You will receive a copy of the email. Once you send a pro forma invoice, you cannot undo this action.

Send multiple pro forma invoices

You can also send several pro forma invoices at once.

Frequently asked questions

Can Sufio create pro forma invoices automatically?

Yes. Pro forma invoices can be set as the default document type, so Sufio creates a pro forma invoice for each order instead of a regular invoice. To set this up, contact our support team.

Can I create a pro forma invoice from a Shopify draft order?

No. Sufio doesn't create documents from Shopify draft orders, so pro forma invoices for draft orders need to be created manually in your Sufio account.

What do I do when my customer pays a pro forma invoice?

Open the pro forma invoice, click More, then select Create invoice. Sufio creates a regular invoice based on the current data from your Shopify order and your Sufio settings, which you can then send to your customer.

Changes made only on the pro forma invoice, such as edited notes or fields, may not be carried over to the final invoice. If you need them on the invoice, add them to your Shopify order or your invoice template.
