Bastille Day

Bastille Day is a national holiday in France which celebrates the actions of a group of revolutionaries who sought to overthrow monarchical rule and its tyranny, and so stormed the Bastille prison in 1789.

The events marked the start of the French Revolution and shaped present-day France with its ideals of liberté, égalité, fraternité—or liberty, equality, and fraternity.

Celebrations include Europe’s oldest military parade on Paris’s iconic Champs-Elysees, plenty of tricolor flags, and people singing “La Marseillaise.” But it’s not just France that marks the occasion—countries all around the world host events, including Canada, South Africa, and the US.

It can be a great opportunity to engage with customers, perhaps by promoting the message of the French revolution—and French values more generally—and offering discount codes, free shipping, or sales.
